Sometimes the greatest gifts are found in the briefest moments

Often when you least expect it something wonderful happens. Like a snapshot of God’s goodness, out of nowhere something happens that brings joy, or happiness, or calm and peace, when you least expect. When the world seems to be crumbling around you.

I have experienced this many times in my life. Often when I’m in a dark place, wondering how I might even make it through I experience an incredible peace and joy in a moment of a sunset, my kids smile, a touch from my wife, even a dogs tail wagging.

What do any of these things do for me in the moment? Nothing really, my wife touch, or my kids smile really don’t help me make the house payment, or solve the current business problem weighing down on me, but that’s not how humans work though. We often wish we did, but we don’t.

We are not robotic, our minds and emotions do not function like simple math problems. We are far too complex of creatures, yet at the same time, we are also very simple.

We need each other, we need faith in ourselves, we need purpose in our lives. If we have these things, the hard times because moments of darkness instead of lifetimes of darkness.

Despite what the Facebook and Instagram feels show, none of us really have perfect lives. We all have periods of our life we would rather we didn’t. We all live through the difficult times, trying hard to convey to the world and ourselves that we have it all together. It’s our nature.

My approach has worked pretty darn well for me, and it’s simple; Know your why, understand your purpose, focus on delivering that, look hard for the moments of joy that sneak up on you when you least expect it, and when the crap hits the fan (case it will brother) make sure you’re ready to take some serious notes and learn from it.

That’s it..  Purpose, Joy, Learn.

Sometimes you might find the greatest gifts in the briefest moments.
