Take time to gaze off into the sunset with the ones you truly care about.

Do you ever just stop, look off into the sunset hold hands with someone you love and rest?

Do you ever just take a few moments to quietly think through everything that is right with the world instead of focusing on everything that’s wrong?

Do you ever just enjoy who you are as a person and the people you care about?

When was the last time you took a long quiet walk with someone that means a lot to you, without any agenda other than to listen to them and care about them?

Life has a nasty way of jumping right in the middle of your best-laid plans and creating havoc. There are so many things to worry about. We have spent the last 100 years developing tools that will save  us time, whether it’s a fancy blender, juicer, the airplane, the car, computers, telephones, smartphones, or even the internet; we are masters at creating “time to bring tools that are guaranteed to bring us the happiness and joy we have been looking for!”

Yet...
We are busier than ever.
We are more stressed than ever.
We sleep less than ever.
We are fatter than ever, have more heart attacks than ever, have poorer relationships than ever, and enjoy our lives less than ever.

How can that be true with all of today's advantages?

We have lost sight of what’s important. We have replaced real relationships with "social media" ones. We have replaced real friendships with “who do I need to know” relationships.
We have sacrificed our professional lives to the “get ahead at all costs” approach.

We have replaced long quiet walks with those we care deeply about with Game of Thrones and House of Cards.

WTF.

When did everything go sideways? Why is it so easy for us to inadvertently sacrifice what matters for what doesn’t matter, and work so darn hard at it while we do so.

Often it's simply because we have never even taken 5 min to understand who we are, why we are, what we care about, and how that all should play out in our day to day lives. Too often we find ourselves totally caught up on the minutia and hassle of everyday life working darn hard to get a sexy skinny selfie for Instagram, never realizing the horrible inadvertent sacrifices we are making.

It’s time for us to take back what we have lost.

It’s time for us to understand “why” we do what we do, and then PURPOSEFULLY decide what we should and shouldn’t spend our precious time on. It’s time we started to make our own decisions and stop letting the world dictate to us what’s really important.

It’s time we took the time to gaze off into the sunset with the ones we truly care about.

Onward,
